Grounded in Fact

Charting a clear course through military aviation history

We've all seen it - and many of you, like me, are probably guilty of repeating it before you know better; those military aviation myths that just will not go away...

And so here I'll seek to do something about it, collecting my research and articles that help to de-bunk those most persistent of pernicious mistruths. As always, your feedback is key! So if you have your own views - which I certainly hope you do - get yourself signed up at the bottom of this page and drop me a message.

The Grounded in Fact 'Charter'

I can't promise definitive answers - if those existed, these myths would have been long banished! But what I certainly can undertake as a commitment is the presentation of evidence based arguments to support a position deconstructing these persistent myths. It's not even important that everyone agrees - that's the beauty of these discussions. But it's vital if mistruths are to be challenged that primary sources in the historical record are used whenever possible, or at the very least secondary sources from our most trusted aviation historians who have themselves done the work. Certainly here I may often be standing on the shoulders of giants...

So without further ado, select a myth below that you find most egregious and let's explore it together!
