Hawker Fury / Sea Fury

Development of the Hawker Fury, a successor to the Typhoon and Tempest, began as early as 1942, but as the end of the war became a visible reality, the RAF pulled the plug on their order. Work immediately began on the 'Sea Fury', a navalised version based on the same design.

Deliveries to the FAA began in 1947, and the Sea Fury would see action in the Korean War. Despite the advent of the jet age, she would soldier on with RNVR squadrons until 1955. Iraqi Air Force Furies saw action in the 1960s, and the last of the type was retired with that Service in 1969.
