Airco DH9

The Airco DH9 was based upon the previous and highly successful DH4. At a time when maximum expansion of the RFC was desired, an incredible 4,630 DH9s were ordered before the type even flew.

Her entry into service was a disaster, and it was not until the addition of a new US built Liberty 400HP engine that the DH9A as it became finally began to live up to expectations. The DH9 would remain in combat use with the RAF until 1920, and saw action in the Russian Civil War.
