Republic P-47 Thunderbolt

With a production run of around 15,500, the P-47 was the most produced fighter of the USAAF during WWII. Built around a turbocharged P&W Double Wasp engine, she was a powerful and robust escort fighter that would later make a name for herself as a ground attack specialist.

Thunderbolts are particularly well known for their ability to absorb remarkable levels of battle damage, and the US' top ace in the European Theatre - Francis 'Gabby' Gabreski - was a P-47 driver, achieving the top score despite spending time as a PoW.
