Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a
The SE5 experienced some problems when it first reached the front, primarily due to the ambition of its geared Hispano-Suiza V8 engine, a very different approach from the rotaries of the time.

The SE5a would become the definitive version, addressing these issues - the Shuttleworth Collection's example is powered by a Wolsley Viper engine, a version of the HS8 licence built in the UK.
